学不到东西、升不上去

心里想的是“在现在的公司学不到东西了”，回答面试官时可以说自己已经 outgrown 目前的职位。

outgrow　能力超过（目前职位）

After five years, I feel I've outgrown my current role.	做了五年，我觉得自己的能力已经超过目前这个职位。
I've outgrown my role, and I'm ready for bigger projects.	我的能力已经超过目前的职位，准备好接更大的项目了。

面试官可能这样回

为什么会这样觉得？

心里想的是“升不上去、没有发展”，可以跟面试官说现在的职位没有 room for growth，再接着说想承担哪些工作；反过来想问新职位有没有发展，也用同一个说法。

room for growth　成长空间

My team is small, and there isn't much room for growth, so I'd like to take on more responsibility.	我的团队很小，成长空间不大，所以我想承担更多责任。
Is there room for growth in this position?	这个职位有成长空间吗？

薪水太低、天天加班

心里想的是“薪水太低”，跟面试官讲的时候，把薪水和责任放在同一句，用 compensation 说想要符合经验的薪酬。

compensation　薪酬（薪水加上奖金、福利）

I'm looking for a role with more responsibility and compensation that reflects my experience.	我在找责任更多、薪酬也符合我经验的职位。
Could you tell me more about the compensation package?	可以多介绍一下这个职位的薪酬福利吗？

面试官可能这样回

What are your salary expectations?

你期望的薪资是多少？

用法提醒：薪水太低怎么讲

想说薪水太低时，可以讲成想找责任更多、薪酬也跟着提高的职位，就像上面第一句。直接说 My salary is too low 是在抱怨现职公司。

心里想的是“天天加班到很晚”，可以跟面试官说想要更好的 work-life balance；面试时也可以反过来问对方团队怎么看待 work-life balance。

I'd like a better work-life balance so I can stay focused at work.	我希望工作和生活更平衡，上班时才能更专注。
How does your team support work-life balance?	你们团队怎么帮大家保持工作和生活的平衡？

面试官可能这样回

Our team sometimes works late before a launch. Would that be OK?

我们团队在产品上线前有时会加班，这样可以吗？

用法提醒：说想要平衡的时候

说想要 work-life balance 时，可以接着说平衡之后能更专注在工作上，就像上面第一句后半的 so I can stay focused at work。

公司变动、想换领域

心里想的是“公司在重整，我的工作被换掉了”，可以跟面试官说明 restructuring 之后工作内容变成什么。

restructuring　组织架构调整

After the restructuring, my role changed a lot, and now I mostly do admin work.	组织架构调整后我的工作内容改变很大，现在大多在做行政。
The company went through a restructuring last year, and my department was merged with another one.	公司去年组织架构调整，我的部门跟另一个部门合并了。

组织架构调整对你的团队有什么影响？

心里想的是“想换到别的领域”，跟面试官说明时用 transition，后面接 from 原本的领域 into 想去的领域。

I'm hoping to transition from sales into marketing.	我希望从销售转到市场营销。
My sales experience will help me make the transition to marketing.	我的销售经验能帮我顺利转到市场营销。

直翻易错：“我想转行做市场营销”

想说“我想转行做市场营销”时，很多人会直翻成 I want to transfer to marketing.。换公司、转领域的时候，可以说 I'm hoping to transition into marketing.。transfer 多半用在同一家公司内部调部门或调地点。

说明跟现职公司的关系、为什么选这里

心里想的是“不想让面试官以为我是跟领导闹翻才走”，可以补一句自己是 on good terms 离开。

on good terms　关系良好、好聚好散

I still get along with my manager, and I'm leaving on good terms.	我跟领导处得不错，这次是好聚好散。
I left my last company on good terms, and I still keep in touch with my old team.	我跟上一家公司好聚好散，现在还跟以前的团队保持联系。

面试官可能这样回

Would your manager be willing to give you a reference?

你的领导愿意当你的推荐人吗？

讲完为什么要走，面试官常会接着问 Why do you want to work here?，可以用 a good fit 说自己的背景跟这个职位对得上。

谈入职时间、被挽留的时候

面试快结束时，面试官常会问 How much notice do you need to give?，回答时说出自己的 notice period 和大概什么时候能入职。

notice period　离职通知期

My notice period is 30 days, so I can start in about a month, once I've handed over my work.	我的离职通知期是 30 天，所以大约一个月后、把工作交接完就能入职。
I'm giving notice this Friday, so my notice period starts then.	我这周五跟领导提离职，通知期就从那天开始算。

例句里的 hand over（交接）在《请年假、交接工作、设自动回复，英语怎么说？》那篇学过。

面试官可能这样回

这样可以。

用法提醒：two weeks' notice 和国内的通知期

跟美国公司的人讲时，口头上多说 I need to give two weeks' notice.（我要提前两周告知公司），notice period 比较常出现在合同和 HR 文档里；美国也没有法定通知期。在国内，《劳动合同法》第三十七条规定，员工提前三十日以书面形式通知公司，就可以解除劳动合同；试用期内提前三日通知即可。

面试官也可能问 What would you do if your company made a counteroffer?，想表明已经决定离开，可以这样回答。
